As this semester is finished and my exams are done, I now have the time and ability to reflect on the happenings of the past couple of months and present my second semester spotlight. This one will probably be shorter than the other, as most of the exciting 'firsts' occurred last semester.
#1 Ready Set Winter Semester
I felt more collected going back to school after Christmas break, as I had more of an idea of what I was doing and what to expect. I made a routine during the fall semester and throughout this semester I've kept that schedule. (My sleep schedule still needs to be fixed but I'm working on it) That being said, I still have lots to learn.
#2 Res Pals
Throughout the past semester, I've spent countless evenings and nights hanging out in room 3000 hanging out with Barry and Emily. We shared stories and laughs, watched movies, took part in some great political discussion, and of course motivated each other to work and study. We have also embarked on late night Subway runs.I thank them for making being in res a little bit better and I'll be sure to visit them (and the kittens) when they move into their new place.
#3 "Secret" Hideaway
If someone was to ask me where I spend my time between classes (and sometimes late evenings) I would respond with "either the library or the debate society office." The office has been and continues to be a cozy little spot on the sixth floor of the University Centre. I mean, sure it's stuffy, there's very little air exchange, and the bookshelf is a safety hazard; but that doesn't matter. Hanaa and I often went there to study and escape the craziness of campus. We would often encounter Liam and Malcolm lounging in the office.
The first weekend after reading week was over brought me to Noah's hometown of Halifax, Nova Scotia for an exhausting but fun filled weekend of debating and socialising "with the enemy" (just kidding, the other debaters I met are pretty cool). The MUN teams consisted of Selma and me aka MUNstruation, and Jim and Noah. Sadly none of us made the semis, however, the guys were close. Selma and I didn't come dead last so that's a win in my book. It was a fantastic weekend overall (despite the omens, that included my ID being outdated and Noah missing his flight) and surely one I'll forever remember.
#5 Lib Crew
Towards the end of the fall semester, I had the pleasure of meeting a rowdy but wonderful group of misfits. We have all bonded a lot since then and embarked on many adventures. The group mainly consists of me, Hanaa, Kyle, Ally, Duncan, Keenen, Jon, Josh, Matt, Chandra, Julian and David. There's also many people who make "guest apperences" (such as Sherida and Craig) to the group. The library crew has helped each other out a lot, and different kinds of relationships have developed these past six (almost seven) months. They're a pretty great bunch of people, and I look forward to the adventures and trials the rest of our post-secondary careers and the rest of our lives.
The winter semester treated me pretty well, parts of it didn't turn out as good as I hoped they would, but like everyone says, the first year of university is a HUGE learning experience and I feel like I learned a lot and I'm ready to go into intercession and the nex fall semester.
